Packing Do’s & Don’ts

Packing in theory is so simplistic. However, many people (including myself) struggle to pack only what I need to the point of hindering my adventure.

For those of you that don’t know, Cory & I started this adventure in two separate cars both packed to the tippy top with stuff.

That was wild.

Throughout our nomadic journey, we have been able to get rid of a few things here & there from time to time. But finally, we worked out a mini vacation to meet my mom and quite literally hand her my car packed with over half of our stuff.

It was a huge moment of relief.

Now we are in one vehicle all together & packed only what we need… mostly.

So I can tell you from experience here is what you need, and here is what you don’t need.

Things You Need

  1. Most commonly worn clothes

  2. Laptops & chargers (ie. the equipment you work with)

  3. Basic medicines

  4. Bathroom essentials

  5. Necessary cleaning supplies (ours are a broom, Swiffer WetJet, and Clorox Disinfecting Wipes)

  6. One cooler of food (since you’re moving around, it’s inevitable to have food to carry from place to place. Don’t waste!)

  7. Spices (honestly, these take up quite a bit of space, but we cook a lot so I regret nothing)

  8. Gaming console (we watch movies & Cory likes to decompress with video games)

  9. Only a few pairs of shoes

Things You Don’t Need

  1. Mugs (I promise, you don’t need it)

  2. Plates or bowls

  3. Utensils

  4. Toilet scrubber or plunger

  5. Hand soap

  6. Most cookware (unless there’s something specific you need frequently… like a steamer)

  7. Towels

  8. Sheets

  9. Multiple books (max. bring one. There’s tons of book swaps you can explore in different places if you’re an avid reader)

  10. Decor (I promise, you don’t need it)

  11. TV

  12. Multiple large game consoles (just choose one)

  13. All of your shoes (choose 1 for each type of “outing”—ie. 1 tennis shoe, 1 hiking boot, 1 sandle, etc.)

  14. Blankets

  15. Lamps

  16. Plants

  17. All of your clothes you might wear (I’m telling you… you think it’s small, but it adds up)

  18. Pillows (unless you have an absolute favorite and back pain — this takes up a lot of space)

  19. Coffee maker

If You Have Pets, Bring…

  1. Their dog bed

  2. Dog food

  3. Their favorite toys (I suggest limiting it to two or three — choose the most versatile toys)

  4. Water bowel & food bowel

  5. Their sweater (if, and only if, you’re going to a cold place)

  6. Natures Miracle (justtttt in case. With the change in environment, you never know how they’re going to respond)

  7. 1 brush

  8. 1 nail clippers

  9. Any supplements a part of their normal diet

  10. Some dog medicine (our dogs have accumulated a lot of prescribed medicine, so we brought 1 of each)

That’s a good idea of what you need to bring that will not be already included in a fully furnished unit.

Pleas let me know your thoughts and if you think I missed anything!

Lots of Love,
Kiley
